Abstract

Internal communication plays a crucial role in enhancing organizational effectiveness and employee performance. This study aims to explore how internal communication is implemented at West Natuna Exploration Ltd. and how it contributes to employee motivation and performance. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations involving four managerial informants from different departments, each with more than three years of service. The findings reveal that internal communication is generally open and effective, facilitated through both formal and informal channels. These include email, meetings, Microsoft Teams, and instant messaging applications. Two-way interactions between management and employees create a sense of appreciation, involvement, and recognition, which positively influences work motivation. Based on Herzberg’s two-factor theory, internal communication functions as both a motivator and a hygiene factor in supporting job satisfaction and productivity. However, challenges such as inconsistent message delivery and less than optimal interdepartmental coordination remain. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening internal communication strategies to support sustainable performance in the oil and gas exploration industry.
