Pemanfaatan Platform Discord sebagai Media Komunikasi Komunitas Virtual Studystream

Abstract

The increasing number of virtual communities, driven by the growth of social media, has made communication platforms essential in supporting the communication process. StudyStream, a virtual learning community, utilizes Discord to facilitate interaction among its members. This research aims to examine the communication process within the StudyStream virtual community through the Discord platform The study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data was collected through observations of communication processes on the StudyStream Discord platform and interviews with three active members of the community. The findings indicate that Discord supports communication through a high speed of feedback, influenced by member characteristics, various forms of messages that accommodate different preferences, varying perceptions of message personalization among recipients, and English as the primary language fostering cultural exchange. The study results show that Discord can enhance the effectiveness of message delivery within virtual communities. Additionally, contextual factors and user perceptions play a significant role in the communication process.
